Join Lucky Oceans and David Milroy as they share their musical life through songs and stories. The celebrated duo were born oceans apart but share the time-honoured tradition of coming together for a yarn and powerful music.
David, a Palyku man, is a prolific songwriter and award-winning playwright. His plays include King Hit, the Patrick White Award-winning (2003) Windmill Baby and the musical Waltzing the Wilarra – which included Lucky in the on-stage band.
David’s honest and humorous songs share his unique view of the human condition.
Philadelphia-born Lucky is a Grammy-Award winning steel guitarist and this year’s West Australian Artist of the Year. In October Lucky will be inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
His steel guitar and songs will take you places you’ve never been.
Together they tell stories from their early careers, such as Lucky’s time with Asleep at the Wheel, playing with Willie Nelson and Eric Clapton and Dave’s tales of growing up in Perth, spearheading theatre and music groups, and playing in dives that you might have forgotten existed.
Their show will include photos of Lucky and Dave’s rich lives projected behind them throughout the show, as they switch between their own compositions and popular songs that have influenced them deeply.
Here’s what audiences have said about their show:
“Like a big warm musical hug full of banter, laughs and soulful tunes. Nobody wanted it to stop.”
“This duo brings a truckload of charisma to the stage, and they both have a hilarious sense of humour.”
